Time for a new theme on my blog

As you might have noticed, I’ve changed the theme of my blog. I changed my theme last about 18 months ago and also did some major updates then to the Wordpress installation. I just updated Wordpress again to the latest version and from now on, the blog will feature the Aeros theme, which so far, I like a lot. I added some custom background images which I will change from time to time. The background currently pictures the Bec di Nona pass in Italy, taken last December.

If you have any comments on the theme, let me know.

Installed Feed Statistics

I’ve just installed Chris Finke’s Feed Statistics plugin for Wordpress. I’m not using Feedburner and still wanted some info about how many people subscribe to my blog and such.

It kind of works. When activating the pluging, I got a little error message that said the primary key of one of the tables was too long. I just cut the key size in half (the feed_subscribers identifier column has a size of 200 in the create table statement, I set it to a 100). Let’s see if feed stats still work like that :) . So far so good at least…

Starting using tags and Dopplr

Jelmer has just installed the latest version of Wordpress on JTeam’s production machine. I still host my blog there and I think they were installing a new web server including the latest and greatest of all the software. Thanks Jelmer.

So now that Wordpress has this tagging stuff built in, I guess I have to go along with the whole Web two dot oooh and rounded corners thing. I’ve just started tagging my posts, in addition to adding categories to them. I’ve also added a cloud of tags, sometimes also called a tag cloud. I’m wondering when that word will make it into the Oxford English Dictionary. And also what the Dutch translation will be: ‘label wolk’ I though at first, but I guess ‘label’ is already an English word.

I’ve also started using Dopplr a while ago. Dopplr is this service with which burglars can see if you’re at home or abroad and can then safely break into your house to steal anything but your laptop (because you’ll have that with you I would say). It’s still nice though to be able to see where some of your friends are heading in near future.
