Occasionally you encounter these little apps that you just have to buy. This was the case with 1Password, probably about a year ago and tonight it happened again.
I was looking for an image manipulation tool. I have this no-illegal-software-on-my-Mac policy and since I don’t do any heavy duty image manipulation, I didn’t want to spend any money on Photoshop. I tweeted about needing an image manipulation tool and a few hours later, Roland Nelson commented on my Facebook account (which is linked to Twitter) that Pixelmator was what I needed.
I went to their website: wow, what a refreshing site that is. Then I downloaded the tool, dragged the application from their beautifully designed Disk Image and began playing around with it. Within one (yeah, just one) minute I went back to their website, remembered my credit card details and obtained a license. $59, or just €43. It took a mere 2 minutes.
If all apps were like this, I would be broke by now
.
By the way: thanks Roland
And for those that still need a url: pixelmator.com.

Have you tried the (free, open source) GIMP ? Its great for most image tasks, I use it for both serious photo manipulation, and all my web based image work.
Yeah I did, but I don’t like apps that look like shit and are not intuitive
. I’ll happily pay for an app if someone spent time on it and if it makes me happy. The GIMP doesn’t really do that (the making me happy part that is).
A couple of months ago I came to same conclusion, pixelmator when I needed a tool that could handle layers. Only when I checked yesterday, I couldn’t find the feature you were looking for. I agree it is a great software with many tutorials (even videos) to get started realy fast.
