NL-jug university session – 06/21 – Spring & Beehive

I’ll be speaking at the NL-jug university session next Tuesday (21st of June) in Driebergen (Holland). Martin Percival (of BEA) will talk about Apache Beehive for about 90 minutes and I’ll be presenting on the Spring Framework. I believe entrance is free for NL-jug members. The sessions start at 6pm. You can find more info here so if you haven’t registered yet, you might want to have a look.

Madrid

This weekend Joost, Pijke and me visited Lars in Madrid. He’s on assignment there for a couple of months so we though, we’ll let’s pay him a visit to keep him off his work.

Unfortunately it was only a really short break. We left Friday late afternoon and had to catch a flight back to Amsterdam by Sunday eraly evening. We did have great fun however.

A short recap:

  • Had some great food on Friday. Spanish tapas are really the only good tapas in the world. The way these people make their food is really excellent. Too bad there’s so much garlic in it, after eating it I’m never able to come close to any female being anymore :( . We had a couple of bottles of this local drink I can’t remember the name of anymore. Maybe it was because I had a bit too much of it.
  • Sol is great place to hang out. Especially if it’s warm everybody stays outside all night and enjoys cocktails.
  • Going to a soccer match is fun, but not if the competition is almost over and the battle for the championship is already settled. We went to Bernabeu to see the local derby (Atletico Madrid vs. Real Madrid). Ronaldo didn’t really do anything. Most of the time he was chatting with his opponents somewhere mid-field. Zidane and all the other superstarts also didn’t really go about getting the ball near the goal. The stadium was impressive though.
  • The zoo was depressing. Don’t bother to go there if you’re used to zoos like Artis (Amsterdam) or any other decent zoo.

Well, that was about it I guess. Madrid is definitely a city I’m going to visit more often. Nightlife is great, temperature is good when visiting in June and the people are nice as well. Definitely a city to recommend!
