Costa Rica (2)

And yes, I’m back from Costa Rica. The job has been pretty busy since I got back, so I didn’t have time to put anything online about my surfing trip. You must know the feeling when after one week, you can’t even remember anymore that you just got back from your holiday, huh?

Anyway, I had a terrific time in Costa Rica. It’s an amazing country from what I’ve seen. Nature is pretty cool, differs all over the place (from rustic French-like countryside in the mountains to wild rainforests with monkeys all over the place).

We (a friend on mine and me) mainly spent our time surfing, which is a terrific sport. I did a lot of windsurfing way back, but (board) surfing is way more relaxed. The fact that you can do it everywhere (where there’s waves) and the fact that you don’t have to get into action all the time (relaxing on your board a bit farther out where the waves don’t break yet is pretty chill) made it all a fun time.

I had a pretty strong fever during the holiday that fortunately only lasted for a day. The wasn’t all of it; I also lost the keys to the rental in the ocean, which was a bummer also! Fortunately within a day, the rental company got us some new keys so we could move on.

The most relaxed place of the trip was the Lookout Inn, a place ran by an American that put about 9 years in creating his own little piece of paradise on earth. If you ever visit the Southern part of Costa Rica on the Pacific coast (the Osa Peninsula), be sure to drop by there and stay for a couple of days. Terry is a wonderful guy, so is his cook and the rest of the staff. Of course I should also mention Katia. Together they create this great atmosphere in an environment full of monkeys, scarlet macaws, little sharks that swim through the breaking waves, pelicans and beautiful sunsets. I promised Terry that if he kept me up-to-date about his plans to get one or two quads and a couple of surfboards that I’d definitely be back sometime.

Oh yeah, we celebrated New Year’s eve in San Jose (unfortunately we had a flight to catch on the first of January, so we couldn’t stay around at Terry’s place for the pig-roast on the beach), which was okay. It wasn’t really happening (but I have to say that New Year’s eve is not my party-night of the year anyway), but I had a fun time.

Okay, fun’s over, Have to get back to work. We’re about to close a major contract, in which I’ll play a large role as well, so I’ll probably be commuting to Utrecht from next week on, to start as a coach/architect for two days a week for a client of ours. It’s a challenge and I look forward to it. I’m also busy finishing off the preparations for my new house. I’m moving to Utrecht, to a newly-built house in the centre. Exciting times so to say.
